|
|
Looking at the Gentoo PPC faq, it states for an install on a G5 to use the alsa drivers rather than using the kernel drivers for Alsa. What should be specified for the ALSA_CARDS in /etc/make.conf on a G5? I wasn't able to find a G5 in the Alsa sound card matrix.
Thanks! |

I have tried both:
ALSA_CARDS="powermac"
and
ALSA_CARDS="snd-powermac"
both return an error as below when emerging alsa-driver
checking for which soundcards to compile driver for... configure: error: Unsupported soundcard powermac
This is on a clean 2005.1 install on a dual proc G5, 64bit install
Any help would be great, getting sound to work is my last major challenge on this box |

compile the driver from the kernel as a module. this definetly works.
can you please give me the direct url to the page you found this? I'm going to change that then. as it seems to be described wrong. |

I compiled in the kernel and it seems to be working, no way to test yet other than I can now run alsamixer. It's weird because compiling in the kernel has *never* worked. Though i've always done a 32bit install on this G5, maybe thats the reason compiling in the kernel never worked before?
Anyway what put me on the path of the modules was
"Note: If you are using a G5 or a mac-mini, you should follow the Gentoo ALSA configuration guide to install the latest version of the ALSA drivers instead of the versions supplied by the kernel."
this is from http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml
Thanks
Now to see if the software I want to use is still masked on ppc64 |
