Gentooers:

I have a new machine here with a PS2 keyboard problem:

- keyboard works in bios
- keyboard works with acpi=off
- keyboard does not work using ACPI

Anyone seen similar?

Tyan S5120 motherboard
Intel P4 cpu
2.6.12-gentoo-r6

Thanks for your time,

Julian

A solution (or, workaround, rather) is here
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0503.0/0531.html

I haven't tried the patch suggested here
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=109508824931419&w=2

as booting with i8042.noacpi=1 works for me.

talking to myself again...

adding i8042.noacpi=1 to the kernel command line did not work every time; 2 out of 10 reboots it failed with "ps/2 controller doesn't have AUX irq".

This thread
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0501.3/1097.html
suggests adding usb-handoff to the kernel command line. It works every time (so far) and does not break SMP, which is what acpi=off did.

So it is fixed, as far as I am concerned, though I would love to know why this works...

Just a quick thank-you note for posting this. I've been looking for a solution to this for a good while. I can finally use ACPI in my kernel now :D

Cheers man!
