|
|
Hi,
This is by now a third version of the 2.6.12 kernel (gentoo-sources, stable ppc64) which features a /proc/device-tree broken. The problem manifests itself when ofpath is called. The following is the result of running ybin:
Code: | ybin: Finding OpenFirmware device path to `/dev/sda2'...
ofpath: /proc/device-tree is broken. Do not use BootX to boot, use yaboot.
ofpath: The yaboot HOWTO can be found here: http://www.alaska.net/~erbenson/doc
ybin: Unable to find OpenFirmware path for boot=/dev/sda2
ybin: Please add ofboot=<path> where <path> is the OpenFirmware path to /dev/sda2 to /etc/yaboot.conf
ybin: Finding OpenFirmware device path to `/dev/sda11'...
ofpath: /proc/device-tree is broken. Do not use BootX to boot, use yaboot.
ofpath: The yaboot HOWTO can be found here: http://www.alaska.net/~erbenson/doc
ybin: Unable to determine OpenFirmware path for macosx=/dev/sda11
ybin: Try specifying the real OpenFirmware path for macosx=/dev/sda11 in /etc/yaboot.conf |
It all happens on a dual 2GHz G5 (PowerMac7,2). gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r8 works without a hitch and the configuration of the 2.6.12 series is copied from the 2.6.11 one so I do not think it is a matter of configuration. Is this a known problem, and most importantly is there a fix?
Do not hesitate to ask if you need any more information on the matter. Incidentally, note that the said 2.6.12 series works flawlessly on my PPC32 machines, it's just the PPC64 that is not happy.
Thanks,

I am running 2.6.12* kernels since they are out and don't have such problems. and so I marked them stable on ppc64. If you have a problem the please report it as soon as possible and not weeks later (bugs.gentoo.org).
I am currently somehow clueless what could trigger your problem. Can you please upload your kernel config somewhere? |

That was it, no problem with the kernel instead the culprit is ofpath. Thanks once more for the help. _________________ Quid latine dictum sit altum videtur |

Sorry, I'm a little slow.
What was the "fix"?
The ofpath on the box we have looks just like the "fixed" one, yet we still have problems... |

The fix for me was the patch mentioned above (the erasure of those lines from the sd*) case).

I believe there are two sd*) lines in ofpath, make sure you are looking at the right one. Other than this, I have no idea, it works well for me. _________________ Quid latine dictum sit altum videtur |
