I recently installed Gentoo 2005.1, at first I was getting errors saying I did not have rights to just VIEW the root folder. Now KDE crashed and I tryed to log back in and now its not alowing me too. when logging in from the console it says there is no home folder /home/<user>! or something like that. and when attempting to login using kdm, kdm justs restarts. When I login as Root there is no problems it is only with the user.

As root, mkdir /home/<user>. Just out of curiousity, how are you creating the user? Because the directory should be automagically created...

hi i have been helping him install gentoo and he had a computer crash shortly afterwards. from there we both re-installed gentoo and this problem has happend all over again. it seems to have started once his atheros (madwifi) card was installed and functioning. until then he was able to do things without problems (except 4 use internet). also this might be affecting sudo seeing as i correctly added his user to the sudoers file and when using it it denies him access from using sudo. please help this has the both of us clueless.

I had an idea I wanted to run by. I just recently bought a d-link wireless card for my laptop so right now I have a atheros and d-link card. Well as you know the atheros card always crashes but do you think if I just do my d-link would that be better? Does anyone know where I can get the driver?

if u need the card info run
Code:

lspci | grep -i net

that will bring up pci info on ur net cards
NOTE: u need to install the pciutils package in order to use lspci
