I'm asking because, literally, overnight the way hotmail looks in both opera and mozilla changed to look TERRIBLE. mozilla is far worse than opera, but opera still has problems with hotmails buttons. any idea?

If that isn't it, than I have borked fonts, and have pretty much since the install.

if it wasn't hotmail changing things up, then I desperately need a "tutor" to help me with my fonts, since I couldn't follow any of the font threads. heh.

Those screenshots looked like shit 8O Hotmail looks normal with Mozilla on my pc, so I guess it's your fonts that are messed up.

I don't have a hotmail account, but their home page looks fine (Phoenix).

I've been to sites that had that really odd font thing. Then I stopped going to them because all the other sites worked fine. Then again, those sites weren't crucial to me.

I think it's a problem of encoding and font choices.

In Mozilla choose your fonts carefully for the 'western' encoding type, for instance, don't use a chinese font there. Try selecting arial & verdana as serif and sans serif fonts if you have then and see if you still have the bug

In Phoenix / view / caracter Coding / Autodetect, I have universal set.

It might also be because of a buggy XftConfig

heh, the problem is it seems that i've changed nothing overnight. Well, I emerged gkrellm, but it didn't start happening at the same time. *shrugs*

like I said, the whole fonts thing is just a few levels above my head. i've read through the larger font threads and don't know what/how/why certain stuff is being emerged, why this is being config'd, or how certain things tie in together. *shrugs*

ugh. I give up. I'm just going to accept ugly fonts, infact, down right disgusting fonts. Because I can't figure it out, either from advice in irc rooms, or from threads here. I'm lost. I'm irritated. I'm worn out. Between a complete inability to get my ati 9000 pro video working properly (I got 1 fps with chromium) and this font crap, I'm giving up. I'm just going to live without the finer things in linux life.

few years later, this post helped me fixing my font problem on Firefox.

I had a setting to override website font choices and so for some reasons, some sites were coming with Japanese translated font. just because the site was using some IE fonts that I did not have. by allowing pages to use their own font instead of my selection, I solve this problem. see in "edit - preferences - content - fonts and colors advanced - allow pages to choose their own fonts.
