I noticed that the intel8x0 driver doesn't have hardware mixing support and I assume its been this way for a while. I think I read somewhere that the new snd-intel-hda driver is somewhat based off of intel8x0. Does this mean that its unlikely hardware mixing support will ever be available on the intel HDA driver? Intel made linux drivers for plenty of other things.... why not sound chips? Or is intel not the roadblock on this one? |

AFAIK it's the chip that can't do it, not the driver _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

Are you referring to the HDA controller or the older intel8x0 compatible chips? I just noticed a bunch of documentation on intel's site about being able to play multiple streams at the same time. I guess that means that the windows drivers handle software mixing? |

windows uses sw mixing anyways with drivers like envy24 which are not able to do hw mixing
if it's the same with intel HDA.. not sure _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay
