Hi!
From some time (don't know when) my system got a hiccup during video playback (and also other animation).
When playing a movie with the kaffeine or mplayer my video freezes every few seconds to continue after half a second.
This also happens to visualization of amarok. I don't know where to look...

I use kernel 2.6.11.6 (vanilla), xorg + ati drivers, kde 3.4 rc1.
I'll bring 'emerge info' tomorrow if needed.

Where can I look, what can I diagnose to solve the problem?

TIA,
Dentharg

Have you tried a different output driver in mplayer?

What is your emerge info, specs and the DE/WM that you use :)?

As for mplayer, yes - still the same.
I also wonder why amarok visualizations have hiccups. At first I thought that it was something with kernel (I used a -ck line kernel), so switched to vanilla kernel. Same shit.

What are your scores in GLX gears? Perhaps the ATi driver is the cause.

I'm having the exact same problem. When I play video using either kaffeine or mplayer with any video out, the playback hangs (for half a second) every let say 3-4 seconds. Testing it further the opengl screen saver do the same thing, hangs (for half a second) every let say 3-4 seconds. The ATI drivers are correctly configured and I can play some opengl games (I tried egoboo and it doesn't have problems, runs at 250fps).

Code:

direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9200 Series DDR Generic

I'm using : xorg-x11 6.8.2-r2, gentoo-sources 2.6.12-r9 and ati-drivers 8.14.13-r2

I've tried the following : downgrading to previous ati-drivers, changing my agp aperture from 64mb to 32 mb (read that on another post), changing my xorg.conf to turn off using agpgart. Nothing solved my problem. If anyone has the same problem and managed to fix it, or have any idea how to fix it, please help me out. It's kinda annoying watching video that hangs every 5 seconds or so...

PS. I hate ATI, never buy from them again...
