Configuring gentoo

I had my Gentoo installed a few days ago and now I'm slowly trying to add more stuuf, that I need. I installed my modem thanks to Howto published on this forum. However, I find little help in the docs about gpm, alsa and a few other things. Are there any official Gentoo Howtos to such thing? Where can I look for help?
