Hi,

Where can I find documentation on how to setup slocate? The webpage doesn't really tell me much and the man page just lists all the options. I am curious about how to index my file system, and how to keep it indexed when new files arrive.

Thanks!
Evan

Code:

   Options:
   -u                 - Create slocate database starting at path /.

What else do you want to setup? Just run this command after doing some stuff with your filesystem

You can use another tool to update the slocate database. It's the updatedb tool.

This tool is used just to update the database and you have options only related to that.

Mm, updatedb isn't in the slocate package...

Cmd updatedb is simply a symlink
Code:
updatedb -> slocate

in /usr/bin/. The slocate cmd uses how it was invoked in order
to decide what to do.

I have another issue regarding locate and slocate. When I am searching for a file with an extension lets say *.txt and at least one such file exists in my current directory then only that file is found and the search ends. The only time the search returns the correct results (ie. all files with the *.txt extension) is when the current directory doesn't contain a file with the searching expression. Is this the correct behavior of locate?

Thanks for the help.
