|
|
I recently switched from gnome to fluxbox. In getting stuff set up, I found that when I restart my computer and boot into fluxbox and X, I can not start aterm, xterm, or eterm. If try to start a terminal from the fluxbox dropdown menu, I get a little box that blinks. If I switch over to a terminal, without X,
(push ctrl+alt+f, and try to start I term, I get this error:
Code: |
$ aterm
aterm: can't open psuedo-tty
aterm: exiting
|
after searching a while online, I found that it is a permission error, and by switching to root and running:
Code: |
$ cd /dev
$ chmod g=rw, o=rw null zero pty* tty* ptmx random
|
and then going back to my gui (<ctrl><alt><f7>), I can again start aterm, xterm, and eterm.
The only problem is that I need to change the permissions everytime I restart. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. _________________ - Penguins

you could add a script to /etc/conf.d/local.start |

had the same problem ... instead of changing permission just add your user to tty group |
