Hi!

I've got a HP OmniBook XE3L which I've installed Gentoo on and it works almost perfect! The only thing that's bugging me is that I can't get the battery monitor to work =/

I've got ACPI support in my kernel, and here's some extra info:

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info
present: yes
design capacity: 5400 mAh
last full capacity: 5400 mAh
battery technology: rechargeable
design voltage: 8191 mV
design capacity warning: 540 mAh
design capacity low: 162 mAh
capacity granularity 1: 264 mAh
capacity granularity 2: 3780 mAh
model number: LIP9071
serial number:
battery type: LiON
OEM info: HP

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state
present: yes
ERROR: Unable to read battery status

Does anyone know how to fix this (if it's possible)?

I had the same kind of problem with my gericom laptop. I fixed it by using a kernel 2.5,or a wolk-sources.

I had to hack the assembly code in the ACPI bios to get battery status to work with my Compaq 2800T. HOWTO is on the ACPI devel site on SourceForge.

for my Sony laptop I just had to patch my current kernel (2.4.20) with the newest ACPI patch from http://acpi.sf.net and then everything worked fine. Also go to www.linux-laptop.net and see what they have over there about your laptop.
