Since I do not know where this problem could be located, I figured I would place this in the networking section to cover all bases. A little background:
Originally I had a perfectly working remote vnc X session (kde) setup running tightvnc and xfree86 using the steps outlined in the tutorial here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-72893.html . However, once XOrg took over and I changed to that, it blew my remote sessions away totally. I could never get them to work again. I recently attempted to fix the problem (after almost a year..we now need this again..) and found connection timeouts which after searching the forums for hours and trying various recommendations there, nothing worked. In desperation I tried RealVNC 4.1.1 and it suddenly started working just fine:)
I now have remote sessions back again, however there is a new twist in the mix. I now get inactivity session timeouts that disconnect me after approximately 55 minutes (I also found that if I had monitor power control turned on for the console this disconnected me as well). I can remain on indefinitely as long as there is activity. Is there possibly another power control setting I missed somewhere that defaults to approx 1 hr?
I have searched and searched and can find nothing in documentation or on forums relating to remote session timeouts. This appears to be a new thing in the mix as the old one never had this at all and I could remain connected for weeks if I wished.
Any ideas where to look or what to set to fix this? is it related to xorg or xinetd or realvnc server or client or a 'hidden' monitor power control setting? My logs give me no clue either as to where this is originating from.
I cannot have remote session timeouts at all it is very disruptive as I have to remain connected in the same session sometimes for weeks.. |
