Trying to get DMA support to work on my Compaq Armada E500. Doesn't matter what *nix/*BSD distro I install, it has serious problems unless I disable DMA.
#lspci
Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 IDE etc...
I've enabled 'Intel PIIXn chipsets support' in the kernel, and when I try to boot with DMA support enabled by default it fails to sync with the disk at boot and will just keep trying to sync. |

I installed Gentoo 2005.0 lately on my Armada E500 and I havan't encoutered such a problem. I checked the disk DMA ( # hdparm /dev/hda ) and it said it's enabled. I suppose that the problem could be in your kernel configuration. If you want I can give you my kernel config that I use for my 2.6. |
