Until recently I had the 2.6.13-rc6 vanilla sources and now i've upgraded to 2.6.13. (via emerge -u world). I've compiled the kernel, recompiled the nvidia and alsa drivers, rebooted, but no sound.Alsa installed to /lib/modules/2.6.13-rc6/ so alsasound complains about not finding the modules. I've tried uninstalling the old kernel, but it still installs there. Then I've made a simlink from /lib/modules/2.6.13-rc6 to /lib/modules/2.6.13, but now alsasound says unrecognised module format.. or something like that.
emerge alsa-driver finds my kernel to be 2.6.13 but insists on installing somewhere else. So what should I do to tell it what to do? _________________ /* no comment */

It's a good thing to answer your own posts
It said that "alsa-driver is already compiled" so it won't compile again. This means the binaries are left over from the last -rc6 install in /var/tmp/portage. So just rm -fr /var/tmp/portage, unmerge everything alsa-related, and remerge. It should work. _________________ /* no comment */ |
