|
|
Since i just got myself a new computer with this card (don't run hauppauge cards with an athlon x2 in windows: their drivers can't cope) i wanted to test it in gentoo:
after several days of googling and collecting pieces here and there i thought by myself that it would be handy to have this in one place, so here goes:
PS: don't do a modprobe ivtv before the howto says so
when compiling your kernel make sure these options are on:
Code: |
CONFIG_CRYPTO=y
CONFIG_CRYPTO_MD5=y
CONFIG_CRYPTO_SHA1=y
CONFIG_CRYPTO_DES=m
CONFIG_CRYPTO_TEST=y
CONFIG_VIDEO_DEV=m
CONFIG_I2C=y
CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV=y
CONFIG_I2C_ALGOBIT=y
CONFIG_I2C_VIA=y
|
mind the m and y options
compile your kernel and install it and don't forget to install the modules.
now, reboot so the changes can take effect!
then, emerge-fetch this (it is still masked, so don't just emerge ivtv, we need ivtv-3 or greater)
Code: |
emerge -f /usr/portage/media-tv/ivtv/ivtv-0.3.7c.ebuild
|
go to a directory of your choice, untar the file and make/make install it
Code: |
cd /usr/src
tar -zxvf /usr/portage/distfile/ivtv-0.3.7c.tar.gz
make
make install
|
if all went well, all your modules should be in /lib/modules/<kernel>/extra
this is my list:
cx25840.ko
ivtv.ko
msp3400.ko
saa7115.ko
saa7127.ko
tuner.ko
tveeprom.ko
if you have some modules missing, copy them over from the "driver" directory you compiled ivtv in
if there are any other modules in /lib/modules/<kernel> with the same names, remove them, back them up, but be sure they haven't got the same name anymore
after this, do a
... Almost there ...
and now we have to do the firmware part:
follow this link and http://ivtv.writeme.ch/tiki-index.php?page=FirmwareVersions get the recommended firmware (marked with ***) and follow the steps outlined in the document, i'll repeat them here for your convenience:
Code: |
ivtvfwextract.pl /path/to/firmware /tmp/encode.img /tmp/decode.img
mv /lib/modules/ivtv-fw-enc.bin /lib/modules/ivtv-fw-enc.bin-old
cp /tmp/encode.img /lib/modules/ivtv-fw-enc.bin
|
this was the encoder part, now lets do the radio firmware part:
Code: |
cd ~
mkdir infzip
cd infzip
wget http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/pvr150/pvr150_inf.zip
unzip pvr150_inf.zip
cp HcwMakoA.ROM /lib/modules
cd ..
|
ok, now you should be set to go
for testing (in X)
Code: |
emerge ivtv-ptune
ptune-ui.pl &
|
now select your video-mode and cable-definition
now select a channel on which you're sure to get a signal (go check your cables provider's list!)
ok, when you have selected the channel, it should have been set by the software, now lets try if we can get it to play
Code: |
cat /dev/video0 > ~/temp.mpeg
|
wait 10 seconds or so and kill it (ctrl+c)
and now, use your favorite mpeg player (noatun, mplayer, vlc, ......)
if it contains the channel you selected, give yourself a pat on the back!
if not, drop something in reply of this message and we'll see if we can get something to work.... (500mce only please)
With kind regards,
Oizoken
PS, sorry for all the errors i made against the english language, it's not my first one! |

Combining this HOWTO, and what others have said in the thread below:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-321404-start-25.html?sid=1e56bd7aecbe23b93d35897c5b6b78c1
i haven't had any problems with audio on any of my three tuners.

dunno, haven't tried yet, but it seems it doesn't work here either, i'll go check on that and if i found out how to do it, i'll include it in the howto
(btw, mythtv and freevo still boggle me, (belgian PAL user here, hard to find a decent xmltv package))
@bemis: what configuration do you have?

Setup (Master):
AMD AthlonXP-3000+ 1024MB RAM
Card0: PVR250 with IR
Card1: PVR500MCE
Card1a: PVR150
Card1b: PVR150
(PVR500MCE is detected by the ivtv driver as 2 PVR150s)
ivtv driver - 0.3.6z
kernel - gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r6
output
- video: nvidia geforce4mx440 (svideo)
- audio: creative sound blaster pci 128
mythtv 0.18.1-r2
-- thinking back to my audio issues of the past (i originally set this box up ~ june or july of '04 and tinkered and added and removed (etc etc etc) for about a year before i have it where (now) i'm kinda scared to touch it - everything works swimmingly) -- the biggest audio issues i had were ensuring that i had the correct "record" flags set in alsamixer and that my recording levels were high enough - but i recalled reading (below) some interesting stuff with audio+pvrxxx --
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-23.html#ss23.1
most important part of the above link re: audio is this (it's regarding the 250/350 - but it should be relevant to the 500:
Quote: |
some people complain that their PVR-250/350 card is not capturing audio. The most likely source for this is that your system is not loading the correct msp3400.o file; ivtv uses a custom msp3400.c, and if the resulting module isn't loaded you will not get sound. Switch to your /lib/modules directory and rename the existing msp3400.o file, then copy the msp3400.o from the ivtv driver directory and re-run modules-update -- You can check if you have the correct msp3400 loaded by typing (as root): modinfo msp3400 | grep "parm: *standard". If you don't get a line that says: "parm: standard int", then you're not loading the correct msp3400.

(please pardon my scatterbrained post - it's 5a )

hmm. that didn't work
i need some sound.
it worked 1 week ago, but then i upgraded and updated the kernel. now its broke. even after manually compiling ivtv-0.3.7h and moving the msp3400.o file over then update-modules modules-update depmod -a reboot. _________________ HW problems. It's a VIA thing. |
