I am using kernel 2.6.13 and have alsa compiled as a modules, along with pcm support, mixer, sequencer support, and support for my card (via envy -- ice module).

When I boot, I get a couple of errors:

Code:
snd_mixer_oss: Unknown symbol snd_unregister_oss_device
snd_mixer_oss: Unknown symbol snd_register_oss_device
snd_mixer_oss: Unknown symbol snd_mixer_oss_notify_callback
snd_mixer_oss: Unknown symbol snd_oss_info_register

So, my mixer doesn't load. I take it that this is why only one application can play sound at a time. I'd really like to get this fixed.

At boot, I don't have sound -- I have to run alsaconf to do what needs to be done to enable sound. It also gives the snd_mixer_oss errors as it tries to insert the module.

All of these modules were compiled from the kernel -- I didn't get alsa-drivers or anything.

What's the word? The unknown symbol error makes me think that the module is compiled wrong or something. Do I need to include OSS support in the kernel, or what? I have the OSS Mixer API compiled as a modules for ALSA, I figured that would be enough.
I tried running snddevices at one point, and nothing really happened. I'm at a loss.

AFAIK kernel 2.6.13 uses alsa-1.0.9b

Do you have the appropriate alsa-utils, alsa-headers, ... installed? On my machines they are still ~amd64

I actually have alsa-utils-1.0.9a installed and 1.0.9b on the headers-- those aren't ~amd64, so that's probably what I'm getting. I'll do the ~amd64 thing and see what I can get.

Thanks man.
