I figured I'd start this thread for people to address their opinions about the new xfree, and for those who haven't merged it get, to get an idea whether they'd like to spend the time or not.
I just emerged the new xfree, and I have to say that i'm quite impressed.
Not only did they get rid of that ugly, giant, transparent cursor...but, i've noticed signifigant improvements with reaction time. I no longer have to wait a split second for menu's, or whatsuch when my RAM usage is at 100% |

Shame though, I liked that transparent cursor.

I like it too, but it should be smaller. I think I'll try the new one though. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

It's running here ... and I'm missing the transparent pointer already...

update: changed from inherits=core to inherts=whiteglass and that nice white, shadowed pointer is back !

Does anyone know if this version fixes the nvidia v4* + gnome 2.2 slowdown? I'm compiling now and will test it, just curious in the meantime...

Glad to hear they've left those awesome pointers as an option... |

Well it seems a bit quicker on this voodoo 5500. Mostly with window drawing and desktop switching. Other than that, not too much elese (of course, it's only a update to the previous and not a feature release). No lockups or oddness to report for anyone using the V5 card. _________________ Talk is cheap because supply always exceeds demand. |
