OK, so I just shipped my computer and peripherals to college. Most things work, monitor, networking, etc, except for sound. I have a Creative SB Audigy 2, which connects to the tower via a firewire and a weird very flat connector. It then connects to the speakers. I also have a crappy Intel soundcard which the Audigy connects to. Now, before I left, the Audigy was detected just fine, and it was the default (after some fussing). Now, lspci doesn't notice it. My only theory is that I plugged something in wrong. The crappy intel card is detected just fine. Suggestions? |

I know I sound stupid, but what I was aiming for was people who owned an Audigy telling me what I did wrong, because I honestly can't see what else to plug in, and I really thought that this was all I did before. |

Apparently I was doing everything right, but the PCI slot had somehow died during the move, and so I switched PCI slots and everything was fine. |

PCI cards often get loose when moving... so you have to pull them out completely first and then plug them firmly back in. Sometimes this also happens when you plug something into the PCI card from the outside, if the case / card / board are not properly attached.
If you have a spare PCI card lying around somewhere, I suggest you try and plug it into the supposedly defective PCI slot, just for sake of knowing wether it really is malfunctioning or not. |
