greetings,
I ran etc-update and had like 30 odd config file to 'fix' and after the 7th i just selected automerge all and i hoped for the best.
however......now i cant su, sudo, kdesu, or anything su in kde. whenever i try it gives me a 'permision denied' reply.
I figure that during the etc-update i hosed some files.

You probably removed yourself from the wheel group or similar.
But you have to get admin privileges to change that.
Normally I wouldn't recommend it but can you login as root?
Then just add your username to the group 'wheel'.
Login again and see if su will work now.
