Working great here under x86-64 (I had to add all packages in package.keywords as ~x86). I don't understand why the ebuilds don't include ~amd64 (they are already hard masked, aren't they? Then WHY not include all the arches to let people try them whitout having to add them to package.unmask and package.keywords???).
The only problem is the swapped mouse buttons, i'll try the patch for evdev later.
Oh, and one question: which package contains glxgears now? |

I will wait until the final release. |

IMHO it's a better temporary "solution" just to Code: | ln -s /usr/lib/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so |
Works as expected here and one doesn't need the overlay. Will fill a bugger for the synaptics ebuild. |

The problem might be that 7.0 RC1 was not completely uninstalled when you unmerged it. In my case nearly all the x11-libs x11-proto stuff was still there when I went back to 6.8.99.x and emerge -pv depclean didn't show them.
You can get rid of them by CAREFULLY executing: Code: | emerge -Ca /var/db/pgk/x11-proto/* | You can replace x11-proto with x11-libs and so on 'til everything is unmerged. Be carefull: qt, gtk and friends are in this groups, too. |

Hi
I've found two packages that fail to emerge due to the modular Xorg (or at least I think that's the reason):
1) Xaw3d

As you can see the errors are the same... I've searched and there are no host.def and date.def on the disk where I have the modular Xorg. In the stable (non-modular) version the files are in /usr/lib/X11/config, so probably I'm missing a package... Does anyone know what I have to emerge to get rid of this error? Or is there some other solution?

Crocodil | Do you have x11-misc/xorg-cf-files emerged? This package should contain the missing *.def files. You are probably also missing x11-misc/imake as this should also pull xorg-cf-files. |

Regards,
Crocodil | Obviously yes. If you have a look at the xorg-cf-0.99.1.ebuild it says at the end
Code: | # Hack to supply missing files until it's fixed upstream
echo "" >> ${D}/usr/lib/X11/config/host.def
echo "" >> ${D}/usr/lib/X11/config/version.def
echo "" >> ${D}/usr/lib/X11/config/date.def
|
So you should have a look at /usr/lib/X11/config if the missings files are there. I think to install it corrctly also for amd64 the lines should read different in the ebuild. Maybe you want to file a bug, that the devs get aware of this problem. As first aid copy the files just over in /usr/lib64/config and these files are only fake (1 byte length)........ |

Hi
On amd64 /usr/lib is a symlink to /usr/lib64, so unfortunately the solution isn't that easy... I've issued a bug report: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111822
Now all I can do is wait
Thank you for your help!

Crocodil

Hi,
I test this new xorg with a readeon 9550 and dri activated (kernel 2.6.14 in order to have drm module up to date). It runs quite well.
I have a problem that have not be reported in this thread (or other one) : I have installed glxgears (with the portage overlay glx-utils ebuild). When I run it, its display does not change (weels don't move), but tells that the refresh rate is 75fps. If I maximize the glxgears window, X crash (seg fault). (note : I don't really need 3d acceleration, this is not a critical bug for me).
Does someone have an idea on that problem ? What should I verify ?
Thanks in advance... |

Hi guys.
I'm checking out this new xorg-x11-7.0.0-RC1 ebuild and most things seem to work just fine with my Nvidia 5600FX card and the binary driver (version 7676-r1). I ran revdep-rebuild and it's telling me I need to rebuild openmotif, tetex and xine-lib, but they all fail to build.
Openmotif and tetex have components which need to be built against libXp.so.6, which it can't find and xine-lib needs to be built against libXvMC.so.1. Openmotif fails with the following error Code: | -o .libs/libXm.so.3.0.2

Do I still need to copy these over from my old xorg-x11 build (which I have tarballed up) in which case where do they come from and where should they go, or is there a better solution?

Hmmm guess I should have thought of that first!
Hopefully sometime in the distant future these libraries can be a dependency of a USE flag combination. |

I'm also getting the error that I've seen others report:
Code: | Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
|
and of course X won't start.
What worked ( tip from another poster, higher in this topic ) was unpacking a /usr/share/fonts folder from another PC running an old xorg-x11.
This is dodgy. Any real solutions? |

and of course X won't start.
What worked ( tip from another poster, higher in this topic ) was unpacking a /usr/share/fonts folder from another PC running an old xorg-x11.

I commented out all the font entries in my xorg.conf and it worked - the fonts must have moved elsewhere. |

I am running xorg-x11-7.0.0-rc1, and things seem to work fine, except for the following (I posted this a couple of days ago, but might as well ask again, since I've been unable to figure it out): Ctrl-Alt-+ no longer works for switching metamodes (I am using the radeon driver with MergedFB). I can't find any relevant messages in the logs, and it seems that the MetaModes are being identified correctly. From my Xorg.0.log:
Code: | (II) RADEON(0): Generating MergedFB mode list[/url]
(II) RADEON(0): Merged "1600x1200" (1600x1200) and "1600x1200" (1600x1200) to 3200x1200
(II) RADEON(0): Merged "1600x1200" (1600x1200) and "1600x1200" (1600x1200) to 1600x1200 (Clone)
(II) RADEON(0): Merged "1024x768" (1024x768) and "1024x768" (1024x768) to 1024x768 (Clone)

I have been looking through /usr/portage/x11-*/ to see if there's an additional package that I might need to install, but I can't find anything that looks like it. You can see my xorg.conf here: http://www.zzamboni.org/diego/files/xorg.conf
Thanks for any ideas. |

xorg-x11-7.0.0_rc2 doesn't work with my ATI M9 video card,
I've got ati-drivers installed but there is no 3d acceleration at all.
