Hi!

I have a Asus motherboard A8N-E (nforce4 ultra without SLI). I got a sata hard drive with gentoo on it. When I try to boot, i get
Code:
Kernel panic_not syncing VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0)

I guess it's because I didn't put the right drivers for my motherboard in the kernel. My root partition is reiserfs and I put the support for that build-in in the kernel.

I had the same problem once with my frist gentoo
the cause was :

bad bios settings related to my sata HD settings ( note hda for ide sda for sata)
bad/wrong partitions done
and the classic one . BAD GRUB.CONF and bad grub install

Post your grub.conf and your fstab conf if you cant figure it out

also, make sure that you copied the kernel properly to /boot
