Hello this summer I installed gentoo from 2005.0 on my FJS Amilo M3438G with no major proplems (no sound /apm support).

Anyway i was forced to format both Windows XP an Gentoo disks (SATA) and here I go again. This time i used the 2005.1 CD. I made 2 attempts

1st attempt
after 1st reboot emerge --sync, and emerge --the whole universe
after i emerged gnome, and copied my video settings from my previous xorg.conf,, I set startx to run gnome. I crossed my fingers and prayed that it would load
.... but god at that time wasn't listening

I see nvidia splash image at 1440x900 and then it starts loading gnome.. It should have been loading components.. but there it just hangs. Mouse works, i can scroll.
After searching for 2 days, i couldn't find anything, whatever i did destroyed something else.... i was desperate.... and when i am desperate i get drunk. And then i format everything.

I suspected that when i emerged world something went wrong, i mean 100++ system files updated are way to much.

So this time i will use the 2005.1 binary package CD an won't emerge everything

2nd attempt
Everything went OK
after finishing the installation, emerged xorg-x11 gnome xscreensaver from CD
copied my PREVIOUS xorg.conf and started gnome
i was very happy to see that it worked!
ok lets emerge now everything but ten at a time so i can find where the problem lies.

first i copied my previous make.conf file so that compile will use the USE flags

then i started againn gnome BUT i had the same problems....

is something wrong with my make.conf? i used the old make.conf i had backuped but nothing happened
i didn't compile anything, just copied it an run gnome

Here is var.0.log
