My DVD is not burning DVD+R as fast as it should. Earlier, it used to do at least 8X with the media I'm using. Now it's stuck at 4X (same package of media). What should I look for to diagnose the problem? _________________ Beetle B. Please update the table of equivalents. A Firefox guide.

Is DMA set for this CDrom drive?
Check with hdparm

Code:

# hdparm /dev/hdX

Where X is the corresponding device (a, b, c or d)

If DMA is off, try to set it:

Code:

# hdparm -d1 /dev/hdX

And then try is writting is faster..

And post some output if this does notsolve your problem..

Please bear in mind that some writable media cannot be used in higher speeds. It could be just a bad bunch of DVD's
