For over a year and a half I've been running an old p3 box as a router/server with 2 NICs, one connecting to my cable modem the other used to connect to my desktop. I recently purchased another old P3 im going to use as just a dedicated server so the routers just going to be a router. I put in the third NIC and everything stopped working. I guess the IRQs changed so now Gentoos confused as to which card is eth0 eth1 ect. I booted with the live cd and it seems NIC1 which used to be eth0 has become eth1. I changed my /etc/conf.d/net so that eth1 was assigned the dhcp flag and eth0 was assigned 192.168.0.1. eth0 and eth1 are starting and eth1 is getting an IP from DHCP but I'm unable to ping anything or use anything network wise. The following is a basic layout of the network:

EDIT: Alright I forgot about my iptables rules I had the script set for eth0 not eth1. I'm now able to ping from the router but when I connect this box to the router I'm unable to ping back and forward. I've tried both NICs.

Code:

            -------------------
           |  Cable Modem     |
           -------------------
              |   ______________________________>>  Desktop
              |   |    _________________________________________>> will be used for new box
       ___________|____|____
       |  NIC 1  NIC 2 NIC3 |
       |                    |
       |                    |
       |                    |
       |                    |
       |                    |
       |                    |
       |                    |

Im sure its something stupid Im overlooking, any help is appreciated.

If you're referring to the cable modem yeah I've tried resetting it, I'm connecting to it with this box directly and its working just fine so it's not the problem.

EDIT: Alright I forgot about my iptables rules I had the script set for eth0 not eth1. I'm now able to ping from the router but when I connect this box to the router I'm unable to ping back and forward. I've tried both NICs.
