I had samba working perfectly, upgraded to the latest version, and now I'm having issues getting smbd to start. A copy of my log.smbd:

I'm not sure where the error is, it doesn't make much sense to me, I was hoping someone else here may have seen such a thing before and can help me out. It seems that nbmd starts fine, it's just smbd that's having trouble starting, but apart from that I don't know what's going on.

Well, some more research turns up that it's probably a Samba bug, and I don't have time to deal with that, so I just masked the latest version (2.0.20-r1). Works fine again.

what i did was to rm -rf /var/cache/samba (as this is where teh drivers are) and re emerged samba ... worked fine for me
