Im in the process of setting up qmail, vmailmgr, and squirrelmail I have mail working fine from mutt ect ... and i can log into squirrelmail using a local username but it wont let me login using user@domain.com will it not let me do that for the base domain? ie will that only work for the virtual domains i create?

I just finished a setup of Squirrel here, if I'm not mistaken all it does is login via IMAP using the credentials you supplied.

I could be wrong but that was my interpretation of setup, or at the very least my setup.

Any specific reason for qmail? It's a fine product and all but feature-wise you can't beat the more modular setups in the postfix+courier+squirrel vein and getting everything to talk via the same mechanism (mysql for instance) is easy as pie once you grok the setup.

previously i setup sendmail .. got it working but didnt understand it
i have also setup postfix but ive been reading so much on qmail that i think i will stick with it for a while

and i found the deal with squirrelmail ... it needs a plugin for the virtual domain support should be no biggie

Hi,

just wanted to mention exim as my favoured MTA,
it´s pretty secure an quite easy to set up.
I´m running it on ldap-imap-webmail based virtual domain system...
supports everything from ssl auth. to maildir and perl integration...
happy mailing...

I'm using qmail+courier+squirrel. No problems here.

You'd probably want to install courier, or else squirrel mail just can't reach your mailboxes
