|
|
I'm having a problem gaining access to my system, via KDM logon screen, although I can ALT-N for a console login.
Does anyone know what I should be looking for, and hopefully how I can solve it, without re-installing - OUCH.
Most urgent need to solve this - as I cannot get to my work. _________________ Many thanks in advance.
I appreciate your help.
Pete

Be more specific: Can't you logon because KDM says "Wrong password" or does it crash or what? |

Thanks for replying - I have tried the following:
1. I login with a wrong pasword - and it behaves accordingly, by not letting me have access - GOOD
2. I login with the correct password - it accepts the password, then tries to go into KDE, but then comes back to login screen.
The only thing that lets me in is via a console login, BUT NO ACCESS TO 'KDE' _________________ Many thanks in advance.
I appreciate your help.

Did this used to work? If yes, then what have you done recently, possibly an update world or etc-update?
If it has never worked then it sound like KDE may no be completely emerged, are you sure that you have all of the required packages? Could you post what kde packages you have installed (your world file, not the whole thing, just grep for kde). |

sounds like X or something in kde is crashing which makes X restarting or something and thus loding kdm again.
anything in the logs?
Johan
ps, I don't see why this is so 'URGENT' but maybe that's just me _________________ http://counter.li.org - Registered Linux user #295636 |

Back up the directories .kde and .qt and delete them afterwards.
Try running KDE again and see if it helps! |

something simple, but not always obvious. In menu, make sure you really are trying to load KDE, not another window manager. It could be that that makes X crash and gets you back to KDM _________________ Someone asked me once if I suffered from mental illness. I told him I enjoyed every second of it.
