Nautilus doesn't show any changes I make outside of it, e.g from a terminal. I always have to refresh the view.

Typing
Code:
ps -A | grep gam_server
reveals that it doesn't get started.

I'm using gnome-2.10.2, nautilus-2.10.1-r1, gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r10 with inotify enabled and gamin-0.1.5.
I initially switched from fam to gamin due to the known issues with fam.
Reverting back to fam doesn't work either. Fam refuses to work, too.

Any Ideas?
Thanks for your help.

Martin

Exact same problem here. Also on AMD64.

I've tried running /usr/libexec/gam_server manually, but it does nothing if I've already got an X session running, and terminates if I start a new one.

Gamin 0.1.6, Gnome 2.10.2, kenel 2.6.13.

A fix! It seems that to get this working, you need to:
  1. emerge fam
  2. unemerge fam
  3. resist the urge to blow away the few files left behind, such as /etc/init.d/famd and /etc/fam.conf
  4. emerge gamin

Skipping straight to step 4 and simply emerging gamin doesn't work: you need to emerge fam first, then remove it again, so you get a few "leftovers" that gamin apparently needs.

Weird but true.

Hmm, this worked once, then stopped. So I have no idea what's going on.

As suggested in this bug, I re-emerged gnome-vfs and nautilus, and now gamin appears to be working.
