Is there a precompiled+source package available somewhere? I can't get it to work using the steps described in this thread. I need it for a project I'm working on (see signature) to do some low level awt-X server calls and not for system use, so portage doesn't need to know about the package _________________ https://github.com/udevbe/greenfield

The reports of the death of gcj-jdk are greatly exaggerated:
For anybody interested in using gcj-jdk, a new experimental overlay is available on github
here.
Just use: Code: | git clone git://github.com/alistair/new-gcj-overlay.git |
For background information, see: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21477

The above overlay uses the gcj installed with gcc when the gcj USE flag is set. It works with any/multiple installed gcc version(s) and automatically builds native java packages with the appropriate gcj-jdk.
I would appreciate some brave souls testing and reporting any problems found, the next part of the plan is to merge with java-experimental. |

Trying it out now, eclipse-ecj can't be built before installing the new gcj-jdk .... after that the rest of my modules seem to be building. Will report back once emerge -DNvua @world completes. |

Thanks EnderWiggin, it's a little stale atm, the version in the multilib-overlay is up to date though, I'll pull over the updates where appropriate. Other than the multilib changes most relevant updates are just some inherit reordering due to stricter portage "illegal inherit" checks in the latest unstable portage version.
Update: I've syncronised the gcj-jdk overlay with the multilib-overlay. It should just work. One caveat though, the location of the the gcjdb has been changed to account for the possibility of different ABIs and is now kept in /usr/share/java/gcj/<ABI/ARCH>/<GCJ SO VERSION>/classmap.db |
