I just bought this new machine AMD64 but I didn't realized that Asterisk is not available yet on AMD64 "stable".

Anybody have any ideal when when will it be available on AMD64?

When I try to start asterisk it starts just:
* Starting asterisk PBX (as asterisk:asterisk) ... [ ok ]

I can start Asterisk command line but as soon as I connect any device (like ATA) it crashes.
I can start Asterisk when no device is connected but as soon as I connect for example Sipura-3000 unit, Asterisk crashes.

If there are real issues (like the ones you describe) the upstream developers are a better adress to ask this question.

That is what I did.
I posted this problem on aster_dev mailing list, so some folks suggested to run unoptimized version of asterisk; means compiled from cvs (source) and running it with option -g to get a core dump.

And I did it as well. I downloaded cvs source code and compile it from source, started it with command: asterisk -vvvgc
But when I connected Sipura ATA it crashed with a message:
Killed
Ouch ... error while writing audio data: : Broken pipe
Warning, flexible rate not heavily tested

There was no core dump in /tmp/core.xxxx but the Asterisk PID was killed. It seems like mpg123 is causing the problem but I can not pin point in what way. If it is to a point that is killing Asterisk PID it must be severe bug.

On the other hand many developers run Asterisk on AMD64 platform and don't experience any problem, but it could be they are running digium cards not Sipura ATA's.

I'd guess there is no core since the core file size limit is 0 by default.

Try 'ulimit -c unlimited' for example and then repeat what you did. You should get a core that way (as long as the current environment has that limit removed, which you can check by doing 'ulimit -c').

It is a good pointer thanks, but it didn't help much.
I disable module musiconhold that got rid of the side effect message:
Ouch … error while writing audio data: : Broken pipe

But the real problem is still there. Every time, I connect the Sipura ATA it just pops up a messages:
Killed
no core dump no nothing.
I guess some others are more lucky than me with AMD64, and the paradox is that the real reason I put that box together is to run Asterisk on it :-/

Have you gotten any further with running asterisk on your amd64? My server needs replacing (has a case of bad caps) and I was thinking of getting and amd64 system, but I do want to run asterisk.

Yes, I'm able to run unstable asterisk 1.08 on AMD 64 just fine.

Cool. Are you running 1.08 because it was the highest unmasked or because 1.2 did not run?
