|
|
Currently running fam-2.7.0-r4, and the fam deamon is running and starts succesfully at boot. However, gnome menus are not updated until I logout and back in.
This is becoming a major irritant!
Anyone got any ideas? I've tried several different versions of fam.
TIA. _________________ Linux user 327411. Go get counted!

Are you sure fam is running? I used to have the problem where fam started up fine, but it died after a short time and I had to zap it and restart it and then it would keep running until reboot.
Check if the process is running. |

my fam is running. other things get updated, but not recent documents.
however, the file ~/.recently-used does get updated. what doesn't get updated is the "Recent Documents" in the Places menu

You could try gamin instead, thats what I'm using. It's a drop in replacement for fam that doesn't need to be run as a service, it is automatically run and it lives in user space (so no root rights needed to start it). |

On the machine I've just built famd is definately running, ps -af | grep famd confirms this.
I don't want to really try something else until I understand why this isn't working, as I have another box with the same use flags & packages working fine. _________________ Linux user 327411. Go get counted! |

I have the same problem on 2 machines.
I'm almost used to logout and login, although this is not really a solution...

Maybe it's enough if you kill the panel and let it restart? Not a solution, I know, but better than login/logout at least. |

I think that could work.
But still, famd should do its job!

I tried gamin and it seems to work quite well.
So is fam on the way out? _________________ Linux user 327411. Go get counted! |

Yeah, I think so. Gamin was built and designed to replace fam and solve the problems it has. |
