|
|
My laptop...
AMD64Turion 3200+
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon Mobility 9600/9700 128MB using ati-drivers-8.14.13-r2 (latest amd64-stable)
1280x800 24bit
Running 64bit Gentoo.
I've got my card working fine (glxgears ~2200fps dropping to ~1000fps in fullscreen, fgl_glxgear ~280fps, dropping to ~200fps in fullscreen)
A few games I've tried runs fine (ut2004-demo, tuxracer - 40+ fps by the feel of it and flightgear runs fine, too), but some (those I want to play ) performs horrible.
Neverwinter Nights - 0.5 - 2 fps
X-Plane - even lower
A Tale in the Desert - 1 fps
I haven't really got a clue as to where to look for solutions as it's not a general failure.
X-Plane required me to emerge emul-linux-x86-sdl which may be the course of it's horrible performance? but why oh why can't I get proper framerates in nwn and atitd?
Please help me
TIA |

I have the same issue with NWN, it's unbearably slow for no reason whatsoever... Have you ever tried running it under Windows on that platform? (because I get EXACTLY the same problem under Windows as well, which is really weird...) _________________ Confutatis maledictis, flammis acribus addictis! |

Oh yah, I saw that somewhere too... No, I hadn't done it. Now I did Code: | eselect opengl savage | *shrug*
I get "Error: Can't load module opengl!" _________________ Confutatis maledictis, flammis acribus addictis! |

Okay, something else, I guess I see where the error might be...
Code: |
# modprobe savage
FATAL: Error inserting savage (/lib/modules/2.6.14-gentoo/x11-drm/savage.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
|
dmesg says:
savage: Unknown symbol pci_pretty_name
Google doesn't really help me much on that error... _________________ Confutatis maledictis, flammis acribus addictis! |

Fair enough, I'd never have bought a card like that in the first place, except... I'm on a laptop which is now over 3 years old. Plenty of fight left in it too, if it weren't for the graphic card... _________________ Confutatis maledictis, flammis acribus addictis! |
