If you dropped devfs for udev, check /etc/securetty too, when you followed the advise from the Gentoo Security Guide to comment out all but vc/1.
Gentoo Linux Security Guide:
Quote: | Restricting Console Usage
The /etc/securetty file allows you to specify which tty (terminal) devices root is allowed to login in from.
We suggest that you comment out all lines except vc/1. This will ensure that root only can login once and only on one terminal.
Note: Users in the group "wheel" can still su - to become root on other TTYs.
Code Listing 3.6: /etc/securetty
vc/1 |
For udev: comment out all but tty1 for root to be able to login. |
