Hello fellow Gentoo users,
The more I use this dist, the more I like it :)
I started my Linux adventure back in 1999 with Redhat 5.2, then 6.0. Rpm h#ll was giving me fits so I went to Slackware 7.1 early last year. I liked compiling my own packages from source but what sets this dist. [Gentoo] apart from other dist's is its partly automated and finds out dependencies for you (instead of like rpm complaining that it needs so and so and gives up). For me, this is a dream come true.
It took several days on an off to get the needed files downloaded (over a dialup modem, no less). I never seen a dist boot so fast before (on par with a freeBSD box). Now I have to get used to Sys V init again since I've been using Slack's BSD style for so long.
Oh well, it was time for me to learn another distribution so I chose Gentoo. So far, my choice seemed the wise thing to do. Now, to emerge KDE...(for other users; I use fluxbox)
8) fluxbox 8)
