Hello everyone,

I just did a new and clean install of Gentoo, I installed mozilla-firefox, btw I am on an AMD64, and it seems to work good, except, sometimes it just doesnt start up, if I restart X a few times, or sometimes one time is enough, it works again.
When I type firefox in the console there is no error message, it's more like it cancels imediatly, so fast I cant even see a window :p.

Well, any ideas?
Thank you very much

Bill

[edit] Basicly it only happens after I started firefox once, so it seems it doesnt get shut down proberbly? Don't know :p nay ideas are welcome :)

Hmmmm, ok I think I now what the problem is.

Firefox does start nicely BUT my wallpaper, panel and conky just draw "over" it.
I am using openbox with feh for the background and pypanel and conky, I started it like this

Code:
eval `cat $HOME/.fehbg` &
exec pypanel &
exec conky &
exec openbox

Do I started this services the wrong way?
Interestingly enough, IF Firefox starts with wallp enabled etc, it draws under the panel, my panel is at the top, so I cant see the window caption etc :p

Any ideas? Again :)
Thanks though

Bill

[edit] NOPE, I was wrong :P this is not the problem, it doesnt work right with all this stuff turned off, so only openbox is left.

In my experience, firefox starts slow because somehow it must first resolve dns for the address it wants to go and then draw the window. When I unplugged my modem and started firefox it wouldn't start although it would appear as a process. Also when a new window is started it has a slight freeze/dealy until it resolves dns. Any ideas?

I'm having trouble starting both Firefox 1.0.7-r3 and Mozilla 1.7.12-r2. These are the errors returned:
Code:
neil@hsd1 ~ $ mozilla
No running windows found
/usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher: line 119:  8294 Bus error               "$mozbin" "$@"
mozilla-bin exited with non-zero status (135)
neil@hsd1 ~ $ firefox
No running windows found
/usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher: line 119:  8310 Bus error               "$mozbin" "$@"
firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (135)
I didn't have this problem until today, and my last upgrades of Firefox and Mozilla were a week ago. Why does this happen now?

I think thats a different problem them the rest of this thread.

Out firefox seemed like it was starting, but then never actually started. No errors or anything. And it seems to only be with Openbox.
