There's a howto on the forums:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-82980-highlight-vmware+gsx.html
Also make sure you have the following compiled in your kernel:
Code: |
Loadable module support --->
[*] Module unloading (CONFIG_MODULE_UNLOAD)
Processor type and features --->
High Memory Support (4GB) --->
Device Drivers --->
Character devices --->
<*> Enhanced Real Time Clock Support
|
One other thing not mentioned there is where to get the vmware-any-any update, you can get it here:
http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/vmware-any-any-update93.tar.gz
I got it running on my machine, so if you get stuck in that tutorial or have any questions let me know. |

Thank's for the advice. VMware is now running. One interesting thing. VMware installed with the latest
package I think it was 3.2.?????????? I am not at my pc now. The any-any fix actually broke my installation.
Cheers

Glad to hear it works. I think you're supposed to run any-any right after installing GSX, is that what you did? I believe it worked for me last time I installed the latest version but I can't quite remember. I still have 14497 and I'm waiting for those bastards to fix their udev support so the init scripts work. Oh well, as long as it runs I'm happy . |

I tried stopping the install script when it asks to run the vmware-config.pl and then ran the any-any fix. Also
ran the install script to the end and then ran the any-any fix. Both broke the installation the vmnet0 and nat modules did not load.
But I agree if it works I am happy.
Thanks again |

The way which works for me, for any linux isssss.....
Get the latest version of GSX, which is 3.2.something right now. Install it. If it goes ok, GREAT.
If it does not build the modules or the modules don't load correctly, then try the any-any update.
I seem to recall that 3.2.* wants you to have a kernel > 2.6.12, but i'm not positive.
Hope that helps, and if not, just ask some more, i've done gsx on several assorted linux machines.
