While messing around with some of my disks, I had the misfortune of running mkswap on /dev/md2 (my root partition). It's supposed to be reiserfs. I'm making a backup of my data now just in case. The drive seems to be fine now, but I'm afraid to unmount and/or reboot. Is it safe to reboot? Do I need to run mkreiserfs and/or reiserfsck? What do I do?

Tried the same on two test installations running in vmware virtual machines.
Root partition ext3: fatal results.
Root partition reiserfs: rebooted without any errors and works.
It doesn't mean that it is safe to reboot, but perhaps gives you some indications. |

Good to know. Did you use RAID1 arrays in the installs? Would that even have any effect on the situation?
I'm almost done backing everything up - I may just try rebooting and see how it goes. |

It's a simple virtual machine install that I used for testing. VMWARE simulates SCSI disks, but it shouldn't matter in this case. |

Just rebooted and had no problems. Moral of the story: use ReiserFS.
Thanks for your help. |
