hi
i need to transfer some data from old server to a new one (about 1.2TB) and im up to buy hardware now.
i want to create a softraid5 - everything i want to know is am i abled to online-expand that array in case i need more space (what will obviously happen), i cannot find any safe answer to my question. this is going to be expensive anyway and i dont want to waste money, but if its not possible i need to buy a hw controller instead. otherwise, softraid5 would be great but its important that it is 100% for sure expandable.
thank you very much for your help |

Using raidtools' raidreconf, you can grow an md raid5.
However, this is not considered production stable and you are advised to backup ALL your data.
Once the raid5 has grown, you will of course have to grow the filesystem or lvm. _________________ "Mr Thomas Edison has been up on the two previous nights discovering 'a bug' in his phonograph." --Pall Mall Gazette (1889)
