|
|
My apologies if I didn't find this issue resolved already in the forums. I tried searching, but found only a partially similar situation.
I have two Gentoo systems. Both now have this issue. one is at 2.4.22 r5, the other is at 2.4.26 r6.
I merrily ran emerge sync on both of them recently, and then tried to run emerge portage but got an error. The first error I received complained that ARCH was not set, and suggested a problem with /etc/make.profile symbolic link. I explored this, made an educated guess as to what the new sym link should be, and "confirmed" this in these forums. As a result I changed the link to what I think is now correct:
/etc/make.profile -> /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.1
This made the ARCH error go away and now I have a new error:
!!! 'str' object has no attribute 'insert'
!!! 'rm -Rf /usr/portage/profiles; emerge sync' may fix this. If it does
!!! not then please report this to bugs.gentoo.org and, if possible, a dev
!!! on #gentoo (irc.freenode.org)
I tried the rm -Rf approach. I just ended up back where I started.
Can anybody help? Should I report a bug as suggested? I can't use emerge on either of my systems now. I am not sure what to do. BTW, the message at the end of the sync strongly suggested to update portage before using emerge again. |

My apologies. emerge --info gives the exact same error! I should have mentioned that. |

Ouch. What version of portage do you have installed?
$ emerge --version
Or, if that errors, too
$ ls -ld /var/db/pkg/sys-apps/portage-* |

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of 'str' object has no attribute 'insert'. _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |
