I'm looking for a good gui tool to run queries against in general any SQL database or specificaly Microsoft SQL server. Any recomendations? Also, should their be a database top level topic? Linux is a great platform for databases and I'm sure a lot of users have prolems with the dirrerent databases.

pgaccess is a good gui for laying out postgreSQL databases. Unfortunately there's no ebuild - get it from here.

You might try Aqua Data Studio from: http://www.aquafold.com/
The downloads are at: http://www.aquafold.com/downloads.html

They claim administration as well as query capability against the following:
Oracle 8i/9i
DB2 UDB 7.2/8.1
SQL Server 2000/7.0
Sybase ASE 12.5
Postgres
MySQL
Generic JDBC[tm]

The best one that I've used is Squirrel SQL:
http://squirrel-sql.sourceforge.net

We've used it with Oracle 8 and 9 (using the Oracle JDBC drivers), as well as with MS SQL 2000 (using the Microsoft JDBC driver which you can download from http://www.microsoft.com/sql/default.asp ).

Another option is DBVisualizer:
http://www.minq.se/products/dbvis/
It's pretty good, but my personal preference is for Squirrel.
