|
|
Hi all,
I had gentoo working on my AMD64 Skt 754. I had it dual boot with Win Xp. I had 3 harddrives. hd0, hd1 and hd2 ( in GRUB terms). hd0 was my primary, hd1 slave and hd2 was a new sata drive. I had gentoo in hd2( /boot, /swap, /). I upgrade my box to skt 939 A64 and got rid of the first two drives and winxp. I want to use my Sata drive (previously hd2) as my one and only drive. If I install grub again( with the already present gentoo binary), will it screw my my /boot partition.
Will my already compiled (for skt 754) gentoo work for my skt 939. If not, I have to install everything from scratch and the first question becomes meanigless.

As long as the ~arch for the new box is not older than the old one (i.e. A64 -> A64 or x86 -> A64) the present install should do fine.
You do need to rebuild your kernel, of course.
As for GRUB, that's not really picky, and no, the MBR has nothing to do with your boot partition.
Just adjust your grub.conf and /etc/fstab accordingly and re-install grub on the drive. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /
