|
|
Hi,
both hwclock and system time do not sync with the host clock. Also the system time is too slow and differs quickly from the hwclock.
Host: WinXP, Centrino 1.5GHz (Toshiba Notebook)
Guest: VMware 5.0 with (without I tried too) VWware Tools installed. A recent Gentoo basic installation with 2.6.12 kernel.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I did follow the instructions in
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-375883-highlight-vmware+sync.html
without any effect.
Regards

If the system time is too slow then that may have something to do with the Centrino stepping down the CPU...
If all you have is a wrong clock - just run ntpdate to get the right time from somewhere else. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

Yes, thank You, this would be a work-around. You mean putting ntpdate in a cron job? I don't like it very much, because the system time is running very slow. So I have to sync every minute. Perhaps someone else did solve this problem in another way?

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Other Things Gentoo.
Not an installation issue |

Well, as I already stated, you have a Centrino system - and that employs the Intel Speedstep technology.
Correct that, and you won't need a workaround. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

This is happening for me as well
CPU= P4 1.8 overclocked to 2.13
RAM = 2gig
Windows XP SP2
VMWare 5.5 Beta RC1 16958
Never had an issue before like this, it just this time since i installed.
Started with 2005.1 cd got it all up and running then did a
emerge --newuse --deep --update world
which brought me upto 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 kernel
I've tried using crontab to update the time which i set to run every hour but it wouldn't make it to an hour.... 6-8 real hours would pass and still 1 hour on the gentoo vmware box hadn't past.
Don't really want to hammer a time server to get a correct time, suppose i could setup a local time server on my windows box....
Also my Windows Virtual Machines appear to keep time fine, so its weird...
EDIT: looking at https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-375883-highlight-vmware+sync.html
I haven't been able to install vmware tools, maybe that is all i need to do, will look into it |
