a powerbook G4 has a.... G4 processor. Look at the ppc version of the installation handbook for ppc specific things.
And moved from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo on PPC _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

So that means CFLAGS="-march=pentium -O3 -pipe" is enough? |

Just curious? Why do you want to install gentoo on a virtual PC? VPC sucks in my experience running anything but the lightest programs. It does, however, make your i/power-book a very good heat source at least here in Florida where the winters are mild. |

The really curious part is why you'd want to go from stage 1 for this almost crazy plan?
Personally, if I wanted to do this/had far too much time on my hands, I'd go for '-mcpu=i586 -O2' (crank it down to O1 if you still hit problems, maybe even O0 if you just want to prove to youself it works)
What CHOST, other CFLAGS, etc are you using & what errors are you getting? Can you build ok on top of a stage 3?
All else being equal and the above not helping, I'd guess this VPC just isn't emulating/translating the hardware 100% correctly... |
