After some minutes of running extremely laggy, my kernel will pull dma mode from both hard drives on my ide0. It was doing this previously when the system was slightly overclocked with no voltage increase, but I've reverted it to normal clocking. It ran without any problem for probably about a month at normal cpu speed, and then this started a day or two ago. I've pasted some info from dmesg below that I thinks relevant. If there's any other info needed, just let me know.

Linux version 2.6.11-gentoo-r5 (root@espresso) (gcc version 3.3.5 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.5-r1, ssp-3.3.2-3, pie-8.7.7.1))

rxKaffee,

Hmm. CRC errors indicate a drive in its death throes, if they are real.

Emerge smartmontools and use it to look at the drives internal status log.
It can also by a dieing IDE controller or cable. The errors do not have to be caused by the drive.

You may learn more by operating one drive alone on the ide0: cable.
