i just got gentoo, i tried to install it, ok everything going great, for some weird reson, when i tryed the commands from the handbox for X86, most worked, but for ssh, it says file does not exist, ok, i ignore it, i go on with install, everything works great, when i get to stages, i have to download it couse the cd version wont work, i get tons of errors, so i think, ok just one bad thing, the download works, once again, i have to download the portage, couse the same stuiped thing happens, then the rest wont work. SO. i think its just X86 wont work for me, so if ubuntu 5.0.4 i386 works just FINE on the computer, what iso do i need, can you give me a link (btw it says livecd to...so i dont know if that was the install disk or not...it was like 700MB thou..)
thanks,

What you need to do is tell us where in the handbook you're up to, what command you typed and what error message was given. For x86 you can use the minimal live CD to do any install via the internet, and the universal CD can be used if no internet connection is available (eg. when you have problems with the network). |

I honestly can't believe I just read this. I'd need to know your IP address and all the other things, plus you're inviting someone you've never met to have root access on your box.
Sorry. |

Don't EVER do what you just did. It's a good thing you didn't post your IP address, or your compy would be a bot by now. This is a public forum, and is even indexed by Google. Follow the handbook to the letter, if you want help post the errors here.
Also, make sure that you pick the live cd for you processor (it seems like you did, or it would have failed outright).
