|
|
Hi,
I just got my new Toshiba Satellite M40. 2.0ghz pentium-m, 1gb RAM, nvidia Go 6600. It's a nice machine.
I have the 2005.1 universal install CD, but the sk98lin module doesn't want to work with the Marvell Yukon ethernet. Also, I don't really have a WEP 802.11 network to connect to. Most of the ones I am around that I could use for my install are set up as WPA.
Can I use WPA with the install CD, using and intel 2915ABG chipset with the ipw2200 driver? Ideally I'd like to use the Wired networking for my install though.
Should I perhaps install from within Knoppix or similar? Would that fix my problem?
Anyone else have any notes or experience with linux on this laptop? Kernel stuff etc to keep in mind. I can see myself building a bloated kernel just to cover all my bases...
Any help would be great!

I own a Toshiba M40 as well it is a pain to connect from a livecd with. I have never tried to connect to a WPA network only tried WEP with the livecd but the ethernet requires the driver from http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect/support/driver/d0102_driver.html to work. I haven't had any success with the kernel ethernet driver.
One note, on my M40 i couldn't get the wireless to work unless i passed acpi=off as a kernel livecd option, this is caused by the firewire drivers and some problem with acpi. |

I'll document my install once I get this done.
