|
|
When i emerging something, it take 20 - 30 seconds to find the application i selected to emerge.
The same thing is when i write a web address in opera/firefox, it take 20 - 30 sec to lock up the web page.
Any ideas why its slow and how to fix this?
I hope some one understand the problem. _________________ What is locked, can be opened. What is hidden, can be found, What is yours, can be mine. |

u mean then e.g. doing emerge -pv application takes 30 sec to give you output whether application really exists/what dependecies are?
if so i have same issue here, but guess it could be related to size of portage (and not really big deal for me). |

Nope, it's when i connecting to the server. And when i write a web address in opera/firefox, it take some time to look up the web page.
example:
Code: |
Linuxbox HEPP # emerge idesk
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 4) dev-libs/libcroco-0.6.0 to /
>>> Downloading http://mirror.gentoo.no/distfiles/libcroco-0.6.0.tar.bz2
--15:11:04-- http://mirror.gentoo.no/distfiles/libcroco-0.6.0.tar.bz2
=> `/usr/portage/distfiles/libcroco-0.6.0.tar.bz2'
Resolving mirror.gentoo.no... |
And now i need to wait 20 - 30 sec, before the download starts. This happened after i reinstall gentoo. _________________ What is locked, can be opened. What is hidden, can be found, What is yours, can be mine. |

When i ping mirror.pudas.net or mirror.gentoo.no or another server around the world, i need to wait like 20 sec or more when the next output line of ping result. _________________ What is locked, can be opened. What is hidden, can be found, What is yours, can be mine. |

Sounds like slow dns response. Try a different name server, like 4.2.2.1. _________________ http://get.a.clue.de |

i am having a similar problem but the difference is i don't experience a slow network.
when i do "emerge sync" for example, my system monitor shows serious I/O Wait by the process
and i don't see any output on the screen for good few seconds.
and in the end of emerge sync the ">>> Updating Portage cache: xx%" takes a very long time to reach 100% even if the sync happend just a few minutes ago.
i have dma turned on & everything else looks normal.
i have amd athlon 64 box.
my system feels a little sluggish.
any thoughts. |
