I am going to be using the strage 2 tarball from the internt and then install the latest portage form the internet.
how can I copy all the distfiles form the internet? I booted from the minial cd, i have the universal at home but I am at work and i cant use the bandwidth fo rtoo long due my speed is only 348k up/down. any ideas
would this do the trick

emerge --sync would just sync your portage to the latest ebuilds.
I don't think there is a way to populate your distfiles with the source files, at least not through portage unless you emerge everything.
What I would try it's wget from one of the sources to see if you can get the files.
I can't give more details cause I never did it and I am not sure how it should be done.
Do some research and see where the rsync servers store these source files for gentoo and try to copy them on the CDs, but I can tell for sure that it's going to be a lot of bytes. |

I am going to just unpack portage then, boot tform the universal cd and copy the files form there. I will bring my universal cd form homje to work tomorrow. I did'nt think it would have worked but i guess the only way to have assurance is to ask.
