|
|
I have read every web page I can get my hands on and tryed not only 5 differant distros, but at least 10 differant ways of getting the NVIDIA drivers loaded for each. Including downloading the file directly from nvidia's site and running the sh script they gave. Gentoo doesn't seem to like that method, but uses emerge instead.
Currently I am using gentoo v 2.6.12-r10
I like it and want to stick with it. I don't think changing distros will solve my nvidia problems anyway.
As of the last attempt here are the steps I followed:
The Gentoo installation guide instructions with custom kernel instead of genkernel
...Kernel has every graphics related option included either internally or module, including agpart option
..Kernel has MTTR enabled
..Kernel has loadable module support enabled
cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/kernel-2.6.12-gentoo-r10
cp System.map /boot/System.map-2.6.12-gentoo-r10
reboot
added ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" (someone said that might help) in /etc/make.conf
emerge sync
emerge -u world
emerge nvidia-glx
returns: with no obvious errors unless they scrolled by too fast to read
modprobe nvidia
returns: "FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.12-gentoo-r10/video/nvidia.ko): Invalid module format
lsmod
returns:
via_agp
agpart
via-rhine
mii
What can I do to get rh nvidia drivers working?
Thanks,
Chris
System is
Pentium 4 1.6 Ghz
GForce 4 TI-4800 AGP Graphics
1 GIG DDR Ram
Please don't respond with any xorg.conf changes. What's the point of starting X when the module isn't even loading.
It will just crash if I try. |

I think you forgot the ebuild that actually gives you the nvidia.ko module.
Code: | # emerge nvidia-kernel |

Nah, nvidia-glx is dependant on nvidia-kernel, so that's in there.
Just to be sure I did emerge nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx and got same results
Thanks though,

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads in favour of 'modprobe nvidia' fails. _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |
