|
|
Hi, All
I recently did a fresh install on my new T42p. Everything went smooth except that I can't get SCIM to work. And it took me quite some time to figure out what was going wrong. The bottom line is I have everything set up correct except that I copied a wrong locales.build file from my other desktops. It contains no Chinese locales at all. What a fool! I am recompiling the glibc with the correct locales.build in place.
Now my question is -- What do I have to do to get my system functioning as if build correctly from scratch? Do I have to rebuild the world?
:(what a pain! I have installed almost everything I need! any better suggestions?
Thanks a lot! _________________ CPU: Pentium M 730 1.6GHz@2.5GHz

thanks for the reply. I did only glibc recompile. Then I unemerge/re-emerge all scim packages. Actually, I use only scim-chinese/scim. And now scim works in terminal window and gaim/firefox. I haven't tested further. However, each time when I start scim I got a message saying 'failed to launch scim'. What does that mean?
My locale is set to en_US.UTF-8 in env.d and I use .bashrc to launch scim. This is not a very good way for desktop since it can screw up sftp. Anyways, here's the relevant part in my .bashrc
Code: | scim -f x11 -c simple -ns socket -d
export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim |
And the message I got when I open a terminal session
Quote: |
Smart Common Input Method 1.4.1
Launching a SCIM process with x11...
Loading simple Config module ...
Creating backend ...
Loading x11 FrontEnd module ...
Failed to launch SCIM. |
Any idea what's happening?
不好意思,中文输入现在是好用的,就是那个错误信息不知从何而来。还有一个问题,就是在DESKTOP MACHINE怎样启动SCIM比较合理?既不影响SFTP到该机器,又方便使用。谢谢诸位!

do not use scim-chinese, try scim-pinyin instead
start scim like this:
scim -d
you can put it into .xinitrc or similar _________________ BLOG: http://liucougar.scim-im.org |

I'm using GDM. For some reason .xinitrc won't get loaded. It seems that I have to put "scim -d" in ~/.xprofile. That works great! _________________ CPU: Pentium M 730 1.6GHz@2.5GHz
